Initial Case Screening can include:

Screen to access whether the four elements are satisfied; Duty, Breach of Duty, Damages, Causation as related to the facts of the case.
Assess issues of the case and develop the case theme.
Identify all relevant medical records, documents and tangible items.
Identify relevant policies and procedures.
Organization of medical records in a chronological order.
Thorough assessment of relevant medical records and other pertinent evidence.
Cross checking of relevant entries - does what the MD states correlate with nurse's notes, laboratory records, radiology and so on?
Identify potential defendants.
Identify potential testifying experts.
Identify deviations from and adherences to Standards of Care and correlate with damage and causation issues
